Intro
Who are we and why are we doing this?
Wandrio is built and run by a small but experienced founder team:
- Antti – Tech,
- Risto – Product & Operations,
- Olli – Growth, and
- Oiva – Design.
We’ve all used various geo collection web apps for tiles and roads. Those services have motivated us to explore more, find new, interesting places, and spend more time in nature. We are standing on the shoulders of giants.
We want to build a universal geo-collection app that improves the experience and brings it to a wider community. And of course, we want everybody to know and be amazed by where we have been.
We start with the tile hunting, even though there are plenty of good services for hardcore tilehunters. However, our ultimate goal is to get everyone tile hunting and geo-collecting. Even those who don’t have a Strava account or a sportwatch. That’s why we are focusing on mobile phones first.
Community page
We created this page because our main community chat lives in WhatsApp, and WhatsApp isn’t great at showing history or helping new users find old answers. Things get buried fast, so this page gathers the most common questions, known issues, and feature suggestions in one place.
The app is evolving quickly, and a lot of what we do depends on Strava and other external services. That means things don’t always work perfectly yet – especially around synchronization, tiles, and maps. This FAQ explains what’s going on and how you can work around problems when they appear.
This page collects the most common questions, known issues, and community feature requests so you can better understand what’s going on and how to work around problems when they appear.
We’ve surely missed something, so if you run into an issue that’s not covered here, please let us know through the app or our community channels – it helps us make Wandrio better for everyone.
You’re welcome to communicate in whatever language you like, but we prefer English so that as many people as possible can follow the conversation and benefit from the answers.
We really appreciate your help in making Wandrio better. If you have skills that could help improve the app or accelerate its growth, and you’d like to contribute, please send us a private message.
FAQ
How are private / follower-only activities handled?
Private and follower-only activities do sync into Wandrio; however, they:
- do not count toward titles (Legend, Mayor, Finder)
- do not appear on the global tile map
- will not appear in future public/competitive views (leaderboards, club tile maps, etc.)
In other words, we treat privacy the same way Strava does: private activities don’t count toward public achievements like KOMs or Local Legends.
How do you make money?
- By launching such amazing features as tile-based navigation, people are willing to support us
Known issues:
Strava Synchronization & Connection
- Why aren’t all my Strava activities showing up immediately?
- Strava imposes some limits on how fast and how many requests we can make.
- We first get and process the rough version of your activities. This normally takes less than 15 minutes.
- Later, we fetch and process the accurate version of all the activities. Due to limitations in our backend, this could take anywhere from 15 minutes to several days.
- Why is the app stuck on ”connecting” or failing to sync?
- If the app says ”connecting, please wait” indefinitely, try restarting the app.
- Ensure you have granted access to private tracks; deselecting this option can break the connection and prevent tracks from transferring.
- How do I handle deleted Strava rides?
- Currently, if you delete a ride in Strava, the activity is immediately removed from Wandrio, but it may take several days for the tiles to be processed.
Activity Accuracy & Map Tiles
- Why are there straight lines (and extra tiles) where I didn’t travel, such as during train rides?
- This usually happens when an activity is paused and restarted at a different location. Strava data often connects these points with a straight line.
- The app currently counts tiles intersected by these straight lines because it is difficult to distinguish a pause from a straight route using standard data.
- We are currently testing algorithms that remove activity lines between points that are over a certain km away. Sometimes, when riding straight roads, the distance between points can be multiple kilometers.
- Why are there missing tiles?
- Because of Strava’s API limits, we can’t always fetch every activity in history at full, detailed resolution. When we import your history, we start with rough activity lines (simplified tracks) that may initially miss some tile visits. We’re continuously improving our algorithms and optimizing our use of the Strava API to fill in missing tiles as reliably as possible.
- How can I fix inaccurate tracks or missing details?
- In-App: Tap an activity line and press the fetch detailed track button
- In-App: Tap a tile, then tap the ”I think I have been here” button to fetch a more detailed route for that area.Via Strava: Make a minor edit to the activity title in Strava. This triggers Wandrio to re-fetch the activity with higher precision.
- Why do I see gaps in my long activities (>300km)?
- Long activities may have data points spaced far apart, causing the algorithm to interpret them as pauses. Refetching the specific activity usually fixes this.
App Behavior & Bugs
- Why aren’t my changes visible after I refetch an activity?
- There is a bug where tile changes from a detailed fetch might not appear until you close and restart the app.
General Questions
- Is there a web version?
- Yes, game.wandrioapp.com
- Yes, but it may have bugs as we use it to test some features
- Also, UI is not currently optimized for the desktop. We are currently in mobile-first mode
- Can I reset my password?
- Yes, but check your spam folder, as reset emails are often flagged as spam.
- It is a standard password email from google so it is surprising that it goes to the spam folder. We are working on it
- Yes, but check your spam folder, as reset emails are often flagged as spam.
Feature Suggestion from Community

- Place Names: An option to display street and place names on the map to help locate missing tiles.
- Done
- Route Visibility: Controls to change the color of driven route lines or toggle them off, as they can currently blend in with roads.
- on backlog
- Global/Undiscovered Map: A map view showing globally discovered vs. undiscovered tiles to motivate hunting in new areas.

- Done
- Custom Themes: Allow users to tweak map themes and visibility settings (custom themes).
- In backlog
- Light map: third map to go with dark and satellite map options.
- Comin’ soon, I promise. This is too long overdue.
- More map options: addition of various map types, such as MTB maps.
- In the backlog (I do a lot of orienteering, and I love quality maps, so I get it)
